The incredible story of Easter!

You probably don’t have to be a Christian to know that Easter is a commemoration of Christ’s death, at least everybody enjoys the holidays. As common as the story may be it will always be striking, shocking, incomprehensible, and unbelievable. Take a moment for a thought, why would the story of the death of any one man, no matter how great He was remain so important 2000 years after, was it about how sad it was that he died? Or about how painful and cruel His death was?

Suddenly he appears from obscurity, a mere three and a half year before his death, and began to preach on the dirt streets of a colonized nation. His message was peace, love, forgiveness and righteousness. He had a capacity for compassion that was unimaginable; he healed sick people including lepers by touching them and called a man back to life from the grave where he had been buried and had begun to rot for four days. He loved little children, played with them and blessed them. Then he get’s betrayed by one of his closest followers, suffers a most incredible injustice from his own people, and was condemned to die like a vile criminal, he was flogged viciously, stripped naked and paraded around town as a spectacle of public ridicule before they hung him on a cross between two bandits. A guiltless man!

The story evokes mixed feelings; unbelief, pity, sadness, shock, but also awe! This man claimed to be the resurrection and the life. He said: “I have power to lay down my life and to raise it up again.” But why did he lay it down in the first place. Love! Incredible! Love. He paid the ultimate sacrifice to demonstrate God’s love for man. He endured suffering the worst of man’s cruelty and wickedness, and did not nurse a thought of revenge; to demonstrate God’s mercy and forgiveness for the worst of sinners and to the most undeserving, so that every one including you and I can take the chance to be accepted by God irrespective of out guilt. He died only to rise again, in these way defeating the worst of our fears ultimately. So that we now have access to hope that there’s eternal life.

The story of Easter ends the tale of Christ’s earthly life but unlocks all the power, glory and hope in eternity; a life which is to come; a life which is for me or you or whosoever would take the chance to believe an incredible story, and admit that the obscure Jesus is now Lord forever.

Which side of the divide are you on?
What are you holding on to , what is you hope in this life and when you are dying?
Take the chance of a life time , there’s no better time to believe in Jesus than now!
