This Way that I take
But he knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous].
- Job 23:10(Amplified version)
Thoughts about this glorious Christian way excite me; Jesus talked about two ways: a way that leads to destruction and a narrow way that leads to life. Christ himself is the way that leads to life; He came in flesh to show us this living way. And so, He truly knows the way that we take; He is the bishop of our souls, the captain of our salvation and our high priest.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
- Hebrews 4:14-16(KJV)
Truly Christianity is a personal experience and walk with Christ, but it cannot be reduced to a private business; a ‘do it yourself’ personal philosophy doesn’t just cut it. There comes times of spiritual need, trials (like Job in the text), persecution and temptation, where natural human strength and ability will not be applicable, but thank God we have all the help we need; our high priest holds the throne of Grace; He designed the road map. He orders the steps of the righteous and leads them in the way everlasting. Hallelujah!
So do you trust in the Lord with all of your heart? Or are you leaning on your own understanding? Do you acknowledge him in all your affairs (family, career, marriage, ministry etc.)? So that He can direct you in the way.
On a final note, it is important that we identify and fellowship with others who walk in this way (Heb 3:13), we belong to them and they belong to us. We cannot follow Christ and not fit in with his flock; fulfillment never really starts until we find our place in His body.
Devotional Prayer
Lord I thank you because you have placed me on the right path in life and because you daily fulfill your promise to supply all my need according to your riches in glory. I consciously take advantage of all the provisions in your word, I let nothing slip. I refuse to obey the dictates of the flesh. I will not rely on my own understanding alone but I seek the will & glory of God in all I do. In Jesus name.
